Why Should You Get a HydraFacial? Top 6 Benefits

December 2, 2019 | admin

No matter how well you take care of your skin, there will come a day when you look in the mirror and see small imperfections, signs of aging or an overall dullness staring back at you. Something happened, and your skincare line isn’t doing everything it promised anymore. Don’t worry. There’s a solution designed to perk up your skin and help your products work more effectively. Call SliMedica in San Antonio, TX and ask about the revolutionary HydraFacial.

6 Reasons to Get a HydraFacial

1. Your Fine Lines and Wrinkles Will Soften

What better reason could you to get a facial have than to look a few years younger than you did just 30 minutes ago? Removing all those dead cells will smooth those lines.

2. You Will Glow

You’ve had a layer of dead skin cells and debris covering your complexion for quite a while. When it’s gone, you will be left with a radiant and vibrant complexion.

3. You Won’t Be Puffy or Splotchy

The serums that your skin will be infused with in this facial are full of natural ingredients to soothe and calm your skin and reduce inflammation. Say goodbye to puffiness, rough spots, and ruddiness.

4. Smaller Pores

When your pores are enlarged because they’re full of sebum and debris, you’ll form blackheads and be prone to other breakouts. The extraction phase of this treatment will empty your pores, allowing them to shrink. You’ll be ready for your closeup.

5. Erase Evidence of Years In the Sun

Those brown spots that prove you didn’t always use sunscreen will fade once you commit to regular treatments. As your skin becomes healthier, those cells will regenerate, making brown spots less visible.

6. The Results Are Immediate

You will walk into our office with a dulling layer of dead skin and debris, but you’ll walk out looking like a million bucks. Your skin will immediately look bright, smooth, refreshed and rejuvenated. You’ll look well-rested and like you have the amazing filter on your face.

Results will last up to a few weeks or a month depending on how well you take care of your skin afterward. It’s important to drink lots of water, use sunscreen every day and remove each day’s makeup and debris at night.

Why Does My Skin Look Dull?

To most of us, skin products that have worked for a long time to keep our skin looking refreshed and healthy shouldn’t one day stop working. It’s not that they have actually stopped working, though. It’s that your skin has stopped absorbing them properly. How does this happen?

Every month, your skin turns cells over, but not all of those dead cells make it off your face. Unless we get regular treatments, we all walk around with a layer of dead and dull skin cells that can become like a barrier to healthy absorption of the nutrients and hydration your skincare line is trying to provide.

Debris

Unless you stay indoors in a bubble every day, you are exposed to all the pollutants and toxins that are all around us. One look at the air quality index of your town can tell you what your skin is being barraged with.

If you wear makeup, chances are there have been a few nights when you haven’t removed everything from your face and pores. It happens. You’re too tired or rushed and you just skip washing your face. Eventually, your pores will start to expand to allow accumulation of this debris, and then they can clog with sebum.

Sebum

Sebum is an oily, yellow substance secreted by our sebaceous glands. This may sound gross, but your skin actually needs sebum. It’s made up of sugars, waxes and fatty acids that prevent water evaporation. This process is how your body tries to keep your hair and skin moisturized. Sebum helps your skin maintain its flexibility and forms a barrier against bacterial and fungal infections.

Where sebum becomes a problem is when it builds up in your pores, creating white and blackheads. This excess can also enlarge your pores, causing them to be more visible than you’d like and opening your skin up for even more irritation.

Other Factors Contributing to Dull Skin

If you’re over the age of 30, you’re also dealing with a decline in the powerhouses that make young skin so vibrant and resilient: collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. When these three are at their peak, our skin is hydrated and dewy, firm and smooth and has an overall look of health. Let’s look at why these three naturally produced skin components are so important.

Collagen

The single most important factor to young-looking skin, collagen is the most plentiful protein in our bodies. Your skin is formed of layers of cells, proteins, and sugars but is still 80% collagen. When you’re young, the middle layer of your skin, the dermis, is packed with strong collagen fibers. These fibers hold all your skin cells together to form a super-strong foundation. This skin on your face lays smoothly on this scaffold and holds firm to it.

As you age, collagen production slows down. When there isn’t enough collagen to replace what gets depleted or broken down, the dermis starts to form areas of weakness. Gravity pushes our skin into those weakened crevices, and this forms fine lines and wrinkles. After our mid-20s, we lose about 1% of collagen production each year.

Elastin

As our collagen production slows, so does our body’s production of the protein elastin. You can probably guess what elastin does by its name—it keeps our skin elastic. There’s something called a pinch test that highlights what elastin does for our skin. If a younger person pinches their skin and lets go, their skin snaps immediately back into place. If someone who has lost a lot of elastin does the same, they may see evidence of that pinch just a little longer than their younger counterparts.

This reduction in elastin contributes to the weakening our skin has on its deeper layers. Gravity pulls everything on your face down, and as our reserves of elastin deplete, you’ll notice your skin becoming lax. This laxity contributes to our skin sagging and looking crepey. The only way to boost elastin is to boost the production of collagen.

Hyaluronic Acid

The hydrated and dewy glow of young skin is all thanks to hyaluronic acid, a natural sugar produced by your body found in sebum and the cells of our skin. These sugar molecules can hold up to 1000 times their weight in water. Hyaluronic acid actually attracts moisture, so even if a twenty-something is a little dehydrated, their skin can still look great.

The same isn’t true of someone in their 40s or 50s. Collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid all go together, so when one drops, so go the other two. Our skin can look dull and dry as we get older, which is why so many of us reach for richer emollients and creams as we age.

The HydraFacial: Specifics

This facial uses a patented VortexFusion technology to cleanse, exfoliate, extract and nourish. VortexFusion sounds serious because it is. A handheld wand is used during the facial that allows different tips to be used during different phases of the experience. This is unlike any facial you’ve ever had.

This treatment is safe and effective for every skin type, tone, and color. The facial is even effective on the most sensitive of skin types, without the worry of irritation or damage. It’s the VortexFusion technology that makes this facial so special and transformative.

Four Steps to Radiance

HydraFacial uses a standard four-step process, though add-ons can be chosen to increase the positive results or address issues specific to your skin at the moment.

Step One: Cleansing

To start each HydraFacial, your skincare specialist will perform a manual cleansing of your skin. This ensures the facial starts on a clean surface, maximizing the effects of the treatment. The VortexFusion wand is used from this point on.

The first tip used is a deplaning tool. This works to open up pores and gently sweep away all the makeup, debris and dead skin cells that have formed on the top layer of your skin. Once these dead cells are removed, your skin is ready to accept some serious hydration.

Step Two: Vortex Peel and Exfoliation

HydraFacial uses its own formulas and serums for each step of the facial. This serum is called Glysal and is a combination of glycolic and salicylic acids. These are the two powerhouses you’ll find in most light chemical peels. Don’t worry: the way they’re applied here is gentle and results in only a slight tingling to let you know it working. Results from this step include:

  • Deep exfoliation
  • Stimulation of collagen production
  • Deep penetration of pores

This step will use one of two exfoliating tips, one more forceful than the other. The serum comes in three levels. You’ll choose the tip and the level of peel before your treatment begins. You and your skincare specialist will decide which is best for you based on the condition of your skin and what results you’re looking for.

Step Three: Extraction

Let’s face it, this is pretty much the best part of any facial, but it’s even better during a HydraFacial. The tip is then switched, and a formula called Beta-HD containing salicylic acid is used to soften everything clogging your pores. The tip sucks away all the sebum and debris that causes blackheads and large pores.

To ensure there’s no irritation from this step, your skin is infused with honey and spirea ulmaria flower extracts. These two ingredients work together to hydrate, soothe and calm your skin. Your pores are clean, so your skin can really absorb all the gentle nutrients added during this step.

Step Four: Serum Infusion

Your skin has been cleansed and exfoliated, so it’s now ready to accept an infusion of nutrients. This step uses a proprietary serum called Antiox that contains:

  • Antioxidants from horse chestnut seed and green tea extracts
  • Peptides from copper, magnesium, and zinc
  • Hyaluronic acid
  • Arnica flower extract to calm and soothe
  • Red algae to brighten

Because hyaluronic acid attracts water, your face will retain all the hydration that it’s been infused with. This step ensures your skin will look healthy, plump and radiant.

Boosters

During your facial consultation, you and your specialist will discuss the boosters available. These are to address specific issues your skin may have. We highly recommend these boosters if you’re looking for more specific results.

Growth Factor

If one of your main goals is anti-aging and fighting fine lines, wrinkles and skin laxity, this is the booster for you. It packs a punch of naturally occurring proteins that regulate cellular growth in your skin. You need this booster to help restore your skin’s overall structure and function.

Britenol

This is a brightening booster to help undo all the damage those years in the sun have caused. Specifically formulated to target discoloration, sun and age spots, this booster is made with Alpha-Arbutin, vitamin C and bearberry extract.

These three ingredients work together to minimize the appearance of sunspots while providing an overall brightening of your skin tone.

Dermabuilder

If you’re not loving the texture of your skin, this booster can even it out and leave it feeling smoother and looking firmer. This formula is packed with peptides to smooth the appearance of fine lines, enhance skin elasticity and even out the surface texture of your skin.

Brightalive

Do you envy the bright glow some people seem to have, almost like they constantly have a great camera filter on their face? This booster can help you achieve that. Formulated with glycerin and other skin brighteners, this will tackle current discoloration and uneven tone and prevent the production of more discolored pigmentation. You can just bask in the afterglow.

Add-Ons

Yes, it can get even better! Your skincare specialist will explain how each of these add-ons could improve your results and add to the overall health of your skin.

Lymphatic Therapy

This add-on is performed by your skincare specialist and drains your lymphatic system of its toxic buildup. This buildup can be responsible for the overall dullness you see and increased inflammation. This soothing process will be added at the beginning of the facial because it removes even more buildup, allowing your skin to better absorb the serums to come.

LED Light Therapy

Added to the end of the facial, this is another customizable treatment to target your specific concerns. You can choose from red or blue LED light therapy. The blue light is perfect for those dealing with acne and all its related issues. It targets and disrupts the bacteria that causes acne, which can leave you with a clearer complexion, longer.

The red light calms your skin even more and adds an anti-aging kick. It will help with the production of collagen, making this facial a true anti-aging powerhouse.

How Often Can I Get a HydraFacial?

We recommend coming back monthly and before any big event you want to shine for. Some clients love the results so much they come back every two to three weeks. Your skincare specialist can recommend the right follow up schedule for you.
